THE KITA COLLEGE
KITA – The College of Tropical Agriculture, Kumasi is at the forefront of Professional, Tertiary, Technical and Vocational Agricultural training since 1984, offering a wide range of full time and part time courses for prospective and practicing farmers and agriculturalists.
KITA COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT & OUTREACH
In pursuing the development section of the goals of the Institute, this sector is setup to coordinate activities between the institute and, rural farmers, communities, community based organisations, local and international development organisations and district assemblies.
KITA AGRO-PROCESSING & INDUSTRIAL CENTRE
KITA launched an agro-processing center to add value to agro-products and train students and communities in agro-processing. KITA now processes a variety of agro-products such as high grade cassava flour, groundnut paste, cereal mix, moringa powder and oils, improved palm oil products among others. Established with support from the Australian DAP Project
KITA FARMS AND GREEN MARKET
KITA Organic farms and Plantations Unit produces a number of organic crops and animals including piggery, poultry, vegetables, arables, cashew, fish farming using professional methods including agroforestry, green houses and aquaponics. The Farms also provide practical skills training for students. KITA’s green market helps to sell organic products from the Institute’s farms and industrial center. The nation needs the services of this department more than ever. Our focus is on the Ejisu Juaben district. We hope that in this particular year, the institute will make a positive change in the lives of the people of the district.
We are glad to acknowledge the unrelenting sacrifices that members of staff of this department are making towards the improvement of the lives of rural people.
It is hoped that the department will receive the necessary co-operation from the local and international organisations to achieve their targets for the year and subsequent years ahead.

OUR PROJECTS
KITA undertakes projects and programs to improve the livelihoods of people and enhance food security in Ghana and Africa
Australian DAP Project
The project was to set-up an agro processing facility and expand 10 practical agribusinesses demonstration projects at the KITA Campus for 3rd year HND in Agriculture students to work in these projects to make money and learn entrepreneurship, project management and financial management skills for 6 months before they graduate.
Biogas Project - SNV
As part of efforts to make KITA a sustainable community, SNV in 2014 supported KITA to build a 40m3 biogas digester that generates electricity for the office and used for cooking in the students kitchen. The Biogas Digester also provides training opportunities for KITA for students in the bioenergy unit. Visit KITA to see more
Rural Enterprise Project
As a training service provider, KITA provides practical and entrepreneurial skills training for community unemployed youth, literates, women and SMEs to be able to improve their skills, efficiency in production and processing, as well as business development to be able to develop sustainable local businesses.
Soyabean Aggregation
KITA is into agricultural value chain aggregation such as soyabean, sheanut cake, wheat bran, rice bran, cotton seed cake, palm kernel shell cake etc. KITA therefore provides market for farmers.
Solar Lanterns
KITA’s renewable energy unit also promotes access to solar lanterns for rural farmers, agro-processors and women to enhance their livelihoods and change the use of kerosene wick lamps.
Moringa Processing
KITA farms produces and processes moringa, working with farmers in local communities to practice agro-forestryy. KITA processes the moringa leafs and seed into oils, & creams.
